Letter to Teachers from Parent

Dear _____________________________,
(child’s teacher)
I have recently found an educational web-based instructional
module that you may be interesting in incorporating into your curriculum at
school. The website, Healthy Hearts, uses the Internet to
teach children about the benefits of physical activity, nutrition, and tobacco
avoidance to promote good health. Healthy Hearts has four topic areas: About
the Heart, Movin' & Groovin', Eatin' Right, and Bye, Bye Tobacco. Each topic area gives students opportunities
to complete interactive tasks, take quizzes, complete writing and math
activities, and ask experts questions. In addition, children are encouraged to
complete daily logs of their physical activity and diet intake for which they
receive immediate feedback to applaud their reports or to help them make wiser
decisions the following day.
The module, developed by leading professionals in the fields
of physical education and health education, meets a number of national content
standards for 5th and 6th graders in health, technology,
math, language arts, geography, and physical education, as identified on the
website. Healthy Hearts is a school-based program, so children must be
registered by their teachers in order to participate in the module.
If you are interested, you can learn more about Healthy Hearts by going to the website
at http://healthyhearts4kids.org, and clicking on “teachers”.
Sincerely,
