(Get more steps!)
For Kids

  1. Get up and move to 3 of your favorite songs.
  2. Take your dog (or your friend’s dog) for a walk.
  3. Walk to your friend’s house, or ride your bike, rather than asking for a ride.
  4. If your parent takes you to school, ask them to drop you off a block or more away and “walk” to school.
  5. Map out a “Walking Course” in your house, and add up your steps.
  6. Shoot a few hoops!
  7. Go for a walk with a friend or family member. Take a plastic bag with you and pick up all the trash you see.
  8. Jump rope to your favorite music. See how many times you can jump without missing.
  9. Ride your bike for 15-20 minutes
  10. Participate in your favorite outdoor game (kickball, wiffleball, Frisbee, tag, etc).
  11. Hang a sheet on a line outside. Practice kickboxing while trying to “kick” the center of the sheet. Take three steps between each kick.
  12. With a partner, dribble a soccer ball around the play area for 2 minutes. If your partner is able to kick the ball away, he gets a point for each successful “kick away”. Switch roles.
  13. If you’re watching a TV show, get up and move (walk or run in place, do jumping jacks, walk around the house, etc) during every commercial.
  14. See how many times you can crawl under and over your bed in 5 minutes.
  15. Clean your room with some energetic music playing.
  16. Take a walk with a family member after dinner.
  17. Give your dog a bath.
  18. If you have a Sony Playstation, play Dance Dance Revolution!
  19. Draw a hopscotch board with chalk on the sidewalk, and hop, hop, hop!
  20. Stack up books in three stacks in a row on the floor. Jump over them as many times as you can in 1 minute. See if you can beat your record.

*Trivia Tidbit:The average person takes about 3,000 steps a day – far below the recommend 10,000. Ancient man used to take about 30,000 steps a day to hunt for food.
