20 Ways to Be More Physically Active Today
(Get more steps!)
For Adults |
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator at work or the mall.
- Walk the dog for at least 15 minutes.
- Walk around the mall or store for at least 15 minutes.
- Park in a space farthest from the store.
- Use the school’s track to walk an extra mile - 4 laps around a standard track = 1
mile (about 2,000 steps).
- Walk around while talking on the phone.
- Use lunchtime and breaks for a short brisk walk.
- At home, design a “walking trail” around your house or in your community with a
family member or friend, and walk it three times a week. Calculate your steps.
- At work, rather than send e-mails to colleagues, quickly walk to their office and
talk to them in person.
- Walk in place or around the house during all television commercials.
- Do not use a remote control while watching TV – get up and change the channel.
- Walk your kids to school or to the bus stop.
- When walking, walk at a brisk pace – not a slow, leisurely stroll.
- Use your home exercise equipment.
- Go out for a short walk (5-10 minutes) before breakfast.
- While on business trips, walk in the airport while waiting for the plane.
- Stay in hotels that have a fitness facility, and use it!
- Wash your car by hand.
- If you play golf, make sure you walk rather than take a cart.
- Throw a ball or Frisbee with your child.
